Kandla Grey Indian sandstone is a natural, silver to blue grey sandstone from Rajasthan and one of the best known grey paving stones in the UK and Ireland. SNK Surfaces supplies it calibrated, in six finishes, as paving, steps, coping, circles, stepping stones and cobbles, by the crate or the full container.
Kandla Grey is a fine-grained, quartz-based natural sandstone quarried in Rajasthan, India. It has a soft grey to blue grey tone with subtle veining and only occasional buff or beige shading, which makes it one of the most even, least variable colours in Indian sandstone.
That consistency is why it is so popular. It suits a clean modern patio and a traditional garden without ever feeling too busy, and it sits as well beside Victorian brickwork as beside glass-fronted extensions. Dense and hard-wearing, it handles foot traffic, garden furniture and freeze-thaw winters.

Sandstone is slightly porous. When rain soaks into the surface it deepens the colour of the grains, so the silver grey turns a deeper charcoal and sometimes shows more blue (see what real Kandla Grey texture looks like). Once dry, it returns to its original shade. Sealing reduces how much water soaks in, but the stone will still look richer when wet.
What goes with Kandla Grey. It works best in cool, clean palettes:
Black fencingSharp contrast for contemporary gardens.
White wallsBright, clean and minimal.
TimberAdds warmth to a cool patio.
Green plantingGrey makes foliage stand out.Riven is the most popular finish for UK gardens and gives good natural slip resistance. Smooth sawn faces look contemporary but can feel slippery when wet, so take care near pools, steps and shaded areas.

Split along the natural layers. Gently uneven, the classic look.

Yes. Kandla Grey is a natural sandstone quarried in Rajasthan, India. There is also a Kandla Grey porcelain that copies its look.
Yes. The silver grey turns a deeper charcoal or blue grey after rain and returns to its original shade once dry.
A slight softening of colour can happen after years of sun and weather, which is normal for natural stone. Regular cleaning and sealing help keep the tone even.
Kandla Grey reaches a wet PTV of 36 or more, which the HSE rates as low slip risk. The riven finish gives good grip in damp conditions. Smooth sawn faces can feel slippery, so take extra care near pools, steps and shaded areas.
Sealing is optional but recommended. It protects against oil, wine and food stains and slows moss growth. Test the sealer on a spare slab first.
