01 · What it is

The grey of the
UK garden.

Kandla Grey is a fine-grained, quartz-based natural sandstone quarried in Rajasthan, India. It has a soft grey to blue grey tone with subtle veining and only occasional buff or beige shading, which makes it one of the most even, least variable colours in Indian sandstone.

That consistency is why it is so popular. It suits a clean modern patio and a traditional garden without ever feeling too busy, and it sits as well beside Victorian brickwork as beside glass-fronted extensions. Dense and hard-wearing, it handles foot traffic, garden furniture and freeze-thaw winters.

02 · Colour & pairing

Silver when dry.
Blue when wet.

Sandstone is slightly porous. When rain soaks into the surface it deepens the colour of the grains, so the silver grey turns a deeper charcoal and sometimes shows more blue (see what real Kandla Grey texture looks like). Once dry, it returns to its original shade. Sealing reduces how much water soaks in, but the stone will still look richer when wet.

What goes with Kandla Grey. It works best in cool, clean palettes:

03 · Finishes

Six finishes,
one stone.

Riven is the most popular finish for UK gardens and gives good natural slip resistance. Smooth sawn faces look contemporary but can feel slippery when wet, so take care near pools, steps and shaded areas.

12 · FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Kandla Grey is a natural sandstone quarried in Rajasthan, India. There is also a Kandla Grey porcelain that copies its look.

Yes. The silver grey turns a deeper charcoal or blue grey after rain and returns to its original shade once dry.

A slight softening of colour can happen after years of sun and weather, which is normal for natural stone. Regular cleaning and sealing help keep the tone even.

Kandla Grey reaches a wet PTV of 36 or more, which the HSE rates as low slip risk. The riven finish gives good grip in damp conditions. Smooth sawn faces can feel slippery, so take extra care near pools, steps and shaded areas.

Sealing is optional but recommended. It protects against oil, wine and food stains and slows moss growth. Test the sealer on a spare slab first.

22 mm calibrated is the UK standard for patios and paths. Use 25 or 30 mm slabs, or cobbles, for driveways.

In 20 ft or 40 ft containers from Mundra Port, India. Production usually takes 15 to 45 days and sea freight around 22 to 30 days to the UK and Ireland, so allow 6 to 10 weeks in total. We ship to the port of your choice, mainly in Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe, and worldwide on request.

Orders are quoted per container load, and part or mixed loads are available. A 20 ft container holds up to 550 m² of 22 mm calibrated sandstone.

Prices depend on size, thickness, finish and quantity. Sandstone often costs less per square metre than porcelain, but include delivery, sub-base, bedding, jointing, cutting and labour when you compare. Ask us for a quote for your project.
